Microbiome

A definitive link between the microbiome and inflammatory bowel disease has been established. Microbiome research is also redefining our understanding of metabolic disease.

AAAC Approach to Microbiome Profiling

AAAC’s team employs a unique approach to emerging sciences and technologies that can have a positive effect on the human life experience, especially related to health and curbing the onset of the so-called “normal” aging process. We believe that while we are all going to die, we don’t need to suffer illness and debilitation in our middle age or even later years.

Our team is committed to sharing our knowledge and expertise to make our clients microbiome specialist by the end of their project! Whether you are seeking insight into microbial function through whole metagenomic or metatranscriptomic functional profiling, our team of microbiome experts partners with our clients to design a microbiome research plan tailored to their specific needs.

The most important genome in your body may not be your own.

Are You Human?

Single-celled bacteria living in and on our bodies outnumber human cells by at least 3 to 1 — and perhaps as much as 10 to 1. The latest estimates from the American Academy of Microbiology put our bodies at 37 trillion human cells and our microbiomes — as those bugs are collectively called — at 100 trillion. The typical human microbiome is said to represent about 1,000 different species, with wide variation from one person to the next in exactly which species.

We employ the most up-to-date, robust, and reproducible platform for microbiome profiling available today. Our analysis methods and informatics pipelines are expertly developed and systematically validated to deliver the most complete and reliable microbiome insights.

Microbiome to Medicine – The Most Important Medical Advancement

Unlike traditional drug discovery efforts that have focused exclusively on the human side of the equation, AAAC, along with it’s partners in medical research and biotechnology, are working on various therapeutic breakthroughs by uncovering how the microbiota interacts with itself, and with its human host, to impact health and disease.

For every one human gene we have, there are 100 associated genes within our microbiome. More than 100 trillion microorganisms live in our gut, mouth, skin and other mucosal surfaces of our bodies. These microbes have numerous beneficial functions relevant to supporting life such as digesting food, preventing disease-causing pathogens from invading the body, and synthesising essential nutrients and vitamins. With the advancement of genomic technologies, the capacity of this second genome to influence health and disease can now be harnessed.

Published research makes clear that the human microbiome is a fundamental component of human physiology, with an estimated one-third of circulating metabolites being a product of the gut microbiota. Changes in the microbiome can trigger changes in human cellular activities, resulting in disease or contributing to its progression. Likewise, other change sin the microbiome can foster health and disease prevention.

The study and application of gained knowledge of how the bicrobiota affects its human host, as well as how to affect the microbiome, and how those changes affect the human, is one of the most exciting medical breakthrough areas in recent history.

The AAAC Microbiome Opportunity

Microbiome research and implementation technologies are an exciting emerging field of possibilities for those interested in harnessing optimal human health and extended healthy lifespans. The AAAC has partnered with leading global facilities that are continuously pushing hte envelope as far as the possibilities and applications of the microbiome field.
